Social media giant Facebook has rolled out a new update to its Messenger app that now lets Windows 10 — just like for Android and iOS — users make voice and video calls, a media report said. Until now, a user had to leave Messenger for Windows 10 and go to Messenger.com or Facebook.com to make voice or video calls.

The phone icon on the updated Messenger is on the top right corner of the screen in the Windows 10 app. A chat glows green when the other person is currently active, Venturebeat reported. When you start a call, the app asks the user if the 'calls use Wi-Fi or your data plan'.

Oct 16, 2014 Facebook Video Calling is a freeware software app filed under instant messaging software and made available by Skype for Windows. The review for Facebook Video Calling has not been completed yet, but it was tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. Just start entering a contact's name or phone number when dialing, and then pick the matching name and number to give them a call. Listen to your voicemail and manage your messages right from the Phone app. No need to call your voicemail.

'Currently, the Windows Phone app does not have voice and video calling,' a Microsoft spokesperson was quoted as saying. According to the report, in July, Facebook said 10 per cent of all Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls went through the Messenger.

Facebook Messenger recently added a new Secret chat option which is end-to-end encrypted. All chats in this mode can't be read by anyone else other than the intended receiver. The Secret Conversation option in Messenger has a time limit for messages, which can be set by the user. After this time limit expires, the messages are deleted, and are not stores on Facebook's servers either.

Just like in WhatsApp, Secret Conversations uses the Signal protocol for its encryption. Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp both have 1 billion monthly active users each, making the social media giant one of the biggest players in mobile messaging.
